Colorful Weddings and Quirky Brides

For those of you fun and quirky brides to be who love the rainbow of colors and plan to use it in your wedding, or for your bachelorette party, here’s something extra you can do for your signature drink. I mean, everyone knows they already help bring the party, but now it can start off as a party and just get better later on! How do we do this?! Just simply give your glasses a sprinkle rim! I found this idea at one of my favorite DIY or Handmade wedding sites http://emmalinebride.com/

(I did not take this photo, it is from the original website posted above.)

So colorful right! If not for weddings or bachelorette parties, how about a spin on your favorite summer drinks for a cookout? Here’s the original post!

Bed, Bedding, Fabric, and a little bit of Rain.

If you were to ask me today what was on my mind, I would probaby respond with “BEDDING!” Seriously. Because all today I could not stop thinking about how I wanted the bed to look in my room! I mean I have decided on this bedframe from SEARS but the bedding is what is going to help tie the whole room AND theme together! I know that I want to try the DIY apple pattern fabric for one of my pillows, but the others I’m not entirely sure on… Here are some sample fabrics from the store “Joann” that I’m going to look into:

All of which would have a solid color on the back. The two bluer fabrics would have green backs and vice versa for the green fabrics. What do you think? Too much? I think with a white bedding it would look good, but I’ve also been looking at other color beddings. Here are some that I’ve found:

Green: Here and Here

White: Here

Cream: Here

(Ive decided that it’s easier to just make a link for Target rather than search for a picture of the exact same product in Google images…)

Which one(s) do you like best, or more importantly, will go with those fabric swaps? Also, does anyone know of any other fabric stores? The only two I know of are Joann and Hancock. So please, if you know of any, hit me up with a message! It would be much appreciated! Hope you all are having an awesome Tuesday night!

—(Also, Holy Bananas! What was up with the weather today?! I mean I know Virginia has bipolar weather, but at work today it was all sunny and happy type weather so I decided to put the umbrellas out at the tables. Then towards the end of my ice cream making journey I saw these almost apocalyptic clouds moving in. I had decided then that I would bring them back inside after I had finished making ice cream. Once all finished, and the machines were nice and shiny again, I took literally like 5 steps out the door, and then the dark clouds unleashed the flood of water that they were containing! I had to run to my car to get my rain jacket so I could get the innocent umbrellas. I finally got them inside and the poor things were drenched :(. I felt so bad. 10 minutes later, the sun came back out again. I decided that I didn’t feel like playing games today, so the little umbrellas stayed inside with me :).)

New Idea!

So this morning I was looking at different comforters or quilts that I would like in my new room, deciding on a color and everything, and an awesome idea leaped into my mind! I’m thinking about taking the DIY Apple themed wedding idea and putting it into my room! That’s right! I said in my room! O_o I’m thinking about taking that pattern and making my pillows out of it! Like on one side of the pillow there would be the green and blue apples on a white cloth and on the other side I would use green or blue fabric! See I told you that the DIY idea could be used for MANY things! Okay well happy Tuesday everyone!

Brides to Be: Apple Themed Wedding

I know that all my posts have been about my room, but brides to be, don’t worry! I’ve got one for you now! This one however is more of just an idea, I didn’t actually do this project but if someone is interested I would be more than happy to show you all how to do it! Anywho, for those brides who have decided on an Apple themed wedding, 1. I applaud you because I love apple themed weddings, and 2. Here’s a DIY project that you could do for it:

(I did not take these pictures or do this bag, I found it at http://www.kokokokids.ru/2011/01/blog-post_17.html)

So now take this idea and put it on paper. Literally! Use the apples for your invitations or use them on bags or boxes for the favors to your guests! The awesome part is, it’s cheap! And you can pick whatever colors you want! I’m sure there are tons of things that you could come up with, but I just thought it would be cute on wedding invitations or maybe even place cards!

Once again, if anyone wants me to do an example of an invitation or wedding favor, let me know and message me! Happy Monday!

Bedroom Makeover: Before

Well, this makeover is taking a lot longer than I had originally planned. I had a two week time frame that I needed to do it in before my summer classes start. But when I told the rents about my newest DIY project, they decided to slow down my pace. First my father said that I wasn’t allowed to start until he could find everything that I needed. So, to make him happy, I waited. I decided to wait, before I found out that he wouldn’t be able to help me out until he was done finishing up projects at another house, and I was told that we won’t be able to start until this Wednesday evening. I figured that he was trying to make me wait it out or something, to see if I would change my mind about painting my room and redecorating it, but I didn’t :P. Slowly but surely I got my room super clean, and got rid of some junk that I’ve been meaning too. I forgot to take Before-Before pictures so here are some semi-before pictures:

These are all shots from my door, but you can see that I have like a Green Tea color on my wall, and then I had cream colors throughout my room, and fake flowers. Very Martha Stewart like, which is not my style at all!

This is the wall that I plan on putting the chalkboard paint. But I think I have decided that instead of painting the whole wall with chalkboard paint, I’m just going to paint the whole room white and then just have a big section above the new dresser drawers that I’m getting, for the calendar, and then a section beside it for the To-Do list. These are the dresser drawers that I’m getting:

(I know it’s a tiny picture, but with Target’s website, you can’t save or copy the picture!)

I’m liking the modern/simple/minimalistic style, but with lots of accent colors. That’s the way I have decided to go with my room. Almost none of the furniture in my room is staying. The shelf is staying just going to paint it a different color (I might change the shelf actually) and the coffee cart is staying. It’s just going to change it’s spot in the room. Other furniture I plan on getting are a new bed frame, a new nightstand, and a new L-shaped desk. These are the two bed frames I’m deciding between:

 and

As of now, I have a black comforter, but I think I’m going to change it out for a more neutral colored comforter that will look good with blue and green pillows. Then the new nightstand will be one of these 3:

And I have already bought the desk, although it’s not technically L-shaped… I couldn’t find a modern espresso colored desk for a decent price so I just bought two smaller ones from target that I will just place in an L-shape haha. Here it is, simple but I like simple:

I plan on buying colorful vases and fake flowers to put in them, but sticking with the blue, green, and pink theme. I’m still going to blow up the picture of the blue and green flowers which you can find here. And I’m still going to make a post for my making of the pillows since I have not found a single blue and green pillow out there! And I will also make a post about painting the room and placing everything, and of course the chalkboard wall! Also, I’ve been to almost every store and can not find any green or blue vases! What’s up with that?! Does anyone have an idea of a store that I should try? I’ve been to Target, Walmart, Home Goods, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, and Pier 1 Imports…

Okay, let’s get back on track. So, I finished cleaning my room and then it was time to move everything to the middle, which I did by myself, and I think I did a pretty good job seeing as all that bulky furniture is pretty darn heavy! Here are pictures of what it looks like now:

^My little kitty’s paws photo-bombed the picture!^

So yeah. There it is, my big pile of furniture! I’m still so excited to see the finished product! But starting Wednesday evening I will have more and more posts that I will be doing, so stay tuned!

Bedroom Makeover

So, it’s been a while since I have done anything to my room, decorating wise, so I have decided that it’s time for a bedroom makeover! I’m pretty excited about this one! The color scheme will be white, green, blue, and black. I originally wanted it to be white, blue, green, and pink, but once i really looked at the color scheme, I realized that it would look like the easter bunny threw up in my room! SO, no pink, and sticking with black. This helps me out a little bit also because now I don’t have to buy a new comforter! I’ve made a small idea board with pictures and patterns that I like:

So yeah, there’s the color scheme! And I have decided that I’m going to paint a whole wall with chalkboard paint and then use trimming that I’ll paint blue or green and create a frame on a section of the wall, where I’ll make a calendar. I haven’t decided if I want to make a calendar like the one in the picture, but you get the idea. And then I will switch out all the table lamps in my room for sleek silver ones that I found at target for only 14 buckaroos! Woop, Woop! I love a deal!

I will also probably sell the antique chair that sits at my desk right now, for a silver rolling one, or a modern styled one that is green or blue. Maybe something like:

As for the accent pillows, I’m thinking about making them myself, because I have found it to be a pain to find the exact pillow that you’re looking for. Plus it’s really easy to make pillows, so why not?! And as for the green and blue flower art, if I can find some that I like out in the world, then I’ll just buy those, but I’m thinking about just blowing up the photo at Kinkos or some place, and just framing it in a simple black frame. Well, today I’m going to clean up my room so I can take before pictures of it, and then I might wait until next week to start getting all the supplies, but soon I will have my new dream room!

Who doesnt love Bubbles?!

Okay, I saw this one while surfing the interweb and I just couldn’t resist posting it… I mean, who doesn’t like Bubble right?! And I personally would rather have heart shaped bubbles being blown at me than having rice showered all over me on my wedding day. So Brides to be, here ya go! My first blog I dedicate to you!

All pictures and directions come from http://emmalinebride.com/diy-ideas/wedding-bubbles-in-a-jar/#more-26525

You’ll obviously need mason jars, jelly jars, or canning jars…

Add colorful twine (spotted via londontierney to wrap around the top of the mason jar.

You’ll need a flower adornment to add a punch of color! We LOVE these by Jennifer Locke Designs

Of course, you’ll need skeleton keys as bubble wands, so we hand-selected a few favorites to get you started. If you use skeleton keys with a heart shape (below), the result will be heart-shaped bubbles - extra cute. one / two / three

Finally, we wouldn’t be your handmade wedding resource without telling you how to make homemade bubbles! Just add 1/2 cup of dishwashing liquid (Dawn or Joy), 2 cups of water and 2 teaspoons of sugar. Mix the solution and add to jars. Easy! For extra fun, add food coloring to the mix for more brilliant bubbles. (Imagine hot pink, blue, yellow… so much fun!)

Today

Okay guys,

Today I will not be posting any DIY projects due to a long list of “To-Do’s”. I will try to get some posted before the end of this week!
